Foundation President

David Griffith was appointed president of the St. Croix Valley Community Foundation in late May of 2000. Through July he made the transition to the Foundation from his previous position as a Managing Associate of Bentz Whaley Flessner, a national fund-raising consulting firm located in the Twin Cities. He brings to the Foundation 30 years experience in higher education, work with non-profit organizations and involvement with communities.

Among the clients he served at Bentz Whaley Flessner were the American University of Beirut, Courage Center, the Toledo Museum of Art, Junior Achievement, Seattle University and the Children's Hospital of Boston.

He moved to Minnesota in 1989 where he served as the vice president for advancement at Macalester College through 1994.

Prior to that he served on the development staff of Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado and as executive director of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Humanities in Sun Valley, Idaho. During his 12 years in Idaho, Mr. Griffith served as the vice chair of the Blaine County school board, was a director of the Idaho chapter of the Nature Conservancy and was a candidate for a seat in the Idaho legislature.

He is a graduate of Yale University and holds a master's degree in history from the University of California at Berkeley. He currently serves on the Yale Alumni Association of the Northwest board of directors and is a former trustee of Wilbraham and Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. He is a trustee of the Archie D. and Bertha H. Walker Foundation of Minneapolis.

He and his wife, Katherine, live in St. Paul and have three adult children. Among his interests are fly fishing, canoeing, and cycling.
