Music
Education Grants Information Sheet
An anonymous donor has
established an endowed field of interest fund
for the support of music education at the
St. Croix Valley Community Foundation. By
the donor's wishes, the earnings from this
fund will be used to enhance the quality of
music education in the schools in the St.
Croix Valley-Washington and Chisago Counties
in Minnesota and Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix
Counties in Wisconsin. The foundation intends
to award a total of $30,000 in music education
grants.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Music education programs from non-profit public
and private schools.
WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA?
The foundation will judge proposals on:
· Potential impact on students.
· Long-range benefits to music education
in the St. Croix Valley.
· Innovation and creativity.
· Clarity of budget.
WHAT EXPENSES ARE
ELIGIBLE? Grants may provide funds for
materials such as sheet music, instruments,
and other items; guest artists and instructors;
community outreach; concerts; composition; inter or intra school collaborations; and other expenses which
contribute to music education. Grant funds
may supplement, but not replace, schools'
music education budgets. Grant funds may not
be used for scholarships for individuals,
uniforms, or staff salaries.
WHAT IS THE SIZE
RANGE OF SCVCF MUSIC EDUCATION GRANTS? The
foundation anticipates making awards ranging
from $500 to $5,000; larger grants may be
considered if the proposed project promises
an impact both wide and deep. Funds may be
expended between the date of award and December
31, 2008.
CAN MORE THAN ONE
PROPOSAL BE SUBMITTED? Yes, applicants
may submit more than one proposal. However,
submitters of multiple proposals should understand
that the foundation intends to spread these
grants over as wide a geographic area as possible.
HOW WILL PROPOSALS
BE REVIEWED? The foundation has formed
a committee of board and community members
to read and rank proposals according to the
criteria listed above. They will recommend
the grants to be funded to the foundation's
board of directors which will make the final
awards.
HOW SHOULD PROPOSALS
BE SUBMITTED?Prepare your proposal considering the guidelines detailed on this page and on the application form. Proposals should be no more than 2 pages in length and include the following attachments:
- Application form including a budget and signed by the school’s Principal or Headmaster (and fiscal agent if necessary). Applications without these signatures will not be considered.
- 1-2 page proposal narrative
- 501(c)(3) tax determination letter (if required)
Submit a total of eight copies (including the original and seven copies) of your proposal narrative, the application form and any attachments to:

not accept either FAXed or electronic
proposals for this competition.
