Music Education Grants

The following guidelines were posted for the last grant cycle. New grant guidelines will be available in August 2008.

Music Education Grants Information Sheet

An anonymous donor has established an endowed field of interest fund for the support of music education at the St. Croix Valley Community Foundation. By the donor's wishes, the earnings from this fund will be used to enhance the quality of music education in the schools in the St. Croix Valley-Washington and Chisago Counties in Minnesota and Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix Counties in Wisconsin. The foundation intends to award a total of $30,000 in music education grants.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Music education programs from non-profit public and private schools.

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA? The foundation will judge proposals on:
· Potential impact on students.
· Long-range benefits to music education in the St. Croix Valley.
· Innovation and creativity.
· Clarity of budget.

WHAT EXPENSES ARE ELIGIBLE? Grants may provide funds for materials such as sheet music, instruments, and other items; guest artists and instructors; community outreach; concerts; composition; inter or intra school collaborations; and other expenses which contribute to music education. Grant funds may supplement, but not replace, schools' music education budgets. Grant funds may not be used for scholarships for individuals, uniforms, or staff salaries.

WHAT IS THE SIZE RANGE OF SCVCF MUSIC EDUCATION GRANTS? The foundation anticipates making awards ranging from $500 to $5,000; larger grants may be considered if the proposed project promises an impact both wide and deep. Funds may be expended between the date of award and December 31, 2008.

CAN MORE THAN ONE PROPOSAL BE SUBMITTED? Yes, applicants may submit more than one proposal. However, submitters of multiple proposals should understand that the foundation intends to spread these grants over as wide a geographic area as possible.

HOW WILL PROPOSALS BE REVIEWED? The foundation has formed a committee of board and community members to read and rank proposals according to the criteria listed above. They will recommend the grants to be funded to the foundation's board of directors which will make the final awards.

HOW SHOULD PROPOSALS BE SUBMITTED?Prepare your proposal considering the guidelines detailed on this page and on the application form. Proposals should be no more than 2 pages in length and include the following attachments:

  • Application form including a budget and signed by the school’s Principal or Headmaster (and fiscal agent if necessary). Applications without these signatures will not be considered.
  • 1-2 page proposal narrative
